Down the IndieWeb rabbit hole
I’m dipping my toe into the world of #IndieWeb and #POSSE (Publish on your Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere) and the #Fediverse. Today I’ve bought my own domain, set up a main site @micro.blog and a separate blog about chronic illness, signed up for bluesky and mastodon, and linked those accounts, and my LinkedIn and medium accounts to micro.blog through #ActivityPub !
Its a learning curve: for example I found that photos don’t publish to LinkedIn, instead a link to the picture at my domain is given. However it publishes perfectly to BlueSky and mastodon. I’ve learnt that I’ll have to re-size and edit photos before adding to micro.blog, unless I find some sort of plug-in or service which does this.
My goals are to spend less time at legacy social media, to create more, and to consume less short-form video content. Its also a small step towards de-googling and a way to unearth my long-lost computer geek side.
